Started my upholstery class last week - and it was fast and tough and geez... I think I'm going to need some real equipment if I'm going to get serious here. But I am learning how to FINISH a piece and having some fun with something new for a change and that is ALL good!!
Challenging myself and learning to stick with one project until its finished are hurdles to jump over and I am reaching for the high bar now.

Learning lessons
Yes - I am still painting in my Bronx apartment. I've been working on these mirrors and am struggling with how best to finish and photograph them. I learned two painful lessons recently - 1) don't carry unfinished artwork into the rain - it gets ruined!!! and 2) make sure your work surface is steady - unfinished pieces also get ruined when they end up upside-down on the garage floor (or as one friend so kindly put it - "You've added some texture!") - still learning....

Finally took some pics
Finally took some pics of my beginning creations. I found the baby rocker at a thrift store and the Henri Matisse was salvaged from Izzy's basement. Still working out some of the kinks on the proper finishing but I'm happy with the design and the colors too. Working on my first chair with an upholstered seat.
Just Be Big Hearted baby rocker
Merci Henri Matisse

Exciting stores in NYC
With my new emphasis on thinking about my future biz, I've been making some new connections in NYC.
1st stop - Found a store that gives upholstery lessons and put my name on the waiting list....though it sounds like it might be a long time coming before they give another class. The star of the show is off shooting a segment for a tv show? That should be interesting.
2nd stop - A friend at work took me to her favorite button and trimmings store on 6th and 37th - and I spent a good deal of time mesmerized by all the beautiful trims and braids and bead work and lace and fringe, and anything else you could possibly want to embellish something. I am going to have fun in that store when I figure out what I want to do with all of the possibility that resides there.
3rd stop - Sitting on the subway on my way to work I envision beautiful completed works of art - that is exciting.

Frisky Furnishings Under Construction
Here I am in my Bronx apartment counting down the months until I enter into the next stage of my life, embarking on a big creative journey - taking a risk on myself and my ART! I'm ready to change my life in more ways than one!!
It is both exciting and scary but I am feeling ready. Much to do before then and I plan to spend a lot of time in preparation. This weekend I had several great thrift store finds laid out on my little tiny kitchen table getting primed for the paint. Funny how one can work in such a small space when you are determined.
I've already set up a painting room at my Huntington house and have finished two pieces (pics to be included soon) and the next step is to set up a painting space at my boyfriend's house. YES - painting everywhere I go.
I can just see it now - outfitting the back of my Yaris for painting too - hah, how funny would that be?
